Welcome to Year 5.
This year your child will be supported in their learning by Mrs Massey, Mr Cockson, Mr Cooke, Mrs Islam, Mrs Lomas, Mrs Begum, Mrs Begum, Mr Ali and Miss Maria.
The topics your child will be learning this year are:
- English - We begin with learning all there is to know about the 2012 successful mission of Curiosity, a Mars Rover and reading Wonder as our class read.
- Maths - Place value and improving our understanding of number and then addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Science – Our first topic is Earth and Space before we move on to Forces.
- RE – Our first topic is based around the question, ‘What does it mean if Christians believe God is holy and loving?’ and the next one is ‘What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?
- Geography / History– Children will then undertake the enquiry ‘Who were the ancient Greeks and what is their influence on the world today?’ before starting our new geography unit of Spatial Sense.
- Art – we are studying Monet and the impressionists.
- PSHE – Identity and peer pressure and then identifying strengths and setting goals. Also beginning our My Happy Mind learning.
- Music – We will be learning to sing and play along to ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ and then Classroom Jazz.
- Computing – Online safety and coding.
Homework:
- Homework will be given out on a Monday and due back on Thursday of the same week. There will be help available at lunchtime for anyone who is struggling.
As part of your child’s continued learning, we request that your child includes in their home routine, the following:
- Regular reading of their book band book and Reading Plus or Lexia.
- Practising times tables on TTRockstars.
- Practising Maths fluency targets using their target booklet.
P.E. is on Mondays - we ask that your child comes to school dressed in their P.E. kit.
P.E. kit items include: white t-shirt, black bottoms, black pumps (indoor) or black trainers (outside) and a school jumper.
