Welcome to Year 1

The Year 1 staff are:

The Year 1 classes are Ladybirds (Miss Sharkey) and Butterflies (Mr Gwynne). We work really hard and we have lots of fun with our learning!

PE

PE is on a Wednesday afternoon and children should come to school dressed in their PE kits on this day. Our PE kit is: plain black tracksuit bottoms, leggings or shorts, a plain white t-shirt and pumps or trainers. School jumpers or cardigans should still be worn on PE days.

Reading

Please make sure your child has their reading book and reading record in school every day. We will read with each child at least once during the week. Reading books are linked to their phonics learning and are changed, once a week, on a Friday. Please try to read regularly with your child at home and record any comments in their reading record. We want all of our children to enjoy reading for pleasure and so it would be great if they could also read a wide range of other books at home.

Homework

Homework will be given out every Friday and should be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. Children will also receive weekly spellings, linked to their phonics learning, to practise at home. They will be tested on these the following week. Your support with your child’s home learning would be much appreciated.
