Year Six

Welcome To Year 6!

Welcome to our Year 6 page. We look forward to teaching your child this academic year and are looking forward to an action-packed year, creating engaging thinkers and fantastic memories!

Your class teachers this year will be Mr Burrows (6SB) and Mr Gwynne (6JG).

We are also very lucky to have Mrs Evans, Mrs Latham, Mrs Denham-Marsh, Mrs Khanom, Mrs Khatun, Mrs Bibi and Mrs Lomas who will be working alongside the children on a regular basis.

This year, Year 6 will have PE on a Thursday. On Thursdays, please could you allow the children to come to school in their PE kits.

Due to lockdown restrictions we will not be giving out or collecting in pieces of homework yet. Children's usage of TT Rockstars, Reading Plus, Rapid Readers and IDL will be monitored and this is our primary homework activity.

Please remember your reading book and water bottle every day. Reading books will be collected in on a Friday, sanitised over the weekend and then replaced. Please ensure you hear your child read as regularly as possible and write down whether you have heard them in their reading journal.

Thank you for your help, assistance and patience in this unusual time.

COVID-19

We are happy to announce that children will be able to return to school as of Monday the 8th of March. We whole-heartedly look forward to an exciting half term ahead and the Year 6 team have been working hard to prepare a fun-filled and productive timetable, allowing children to settle back into the routines of the school day, addressing missed learning and creating lovely memories that the children will fondly remember.

We will be studying the following:

English - Children will be working on the story of Romeo and Juliet, with lots of drama work, writing styles and persuasion.

Maths - Children will begin by revising their calculation methods and then completing an engaging and cake-fuelled coverage of fractions, decimals and percentages.

Art - We will be looking at drawing skills and also at optical illusions.

Geography - We will be studying the geography of Europe, in preparation for our summer term unit on World War 1.

Spanish - We will be learning how to describe and then making our own children's book.

Music - We will be rapping and looking at the hip-hop genre, even improvising our own music using instruments!

This is just a taste of what we have planned - yet more exciting things to come after Easter!

Should we be unfortunate enough to have to close a bubble again, or should your child be off due to COVID 19 testing or symptoms, you can find work below:

Pupil Pack for Home Learning

Parent Pack for Home Learners - please use this for assistance and to check your child's work.

What to do if you are off whilst the bubble is still open

Some families may find they are self-isolating, yet the other Year 6 children are still attending school each day. The following 3 printouts below give children work to do from home if they are off whilst the rest of their bubble are still in school. Children can do the work on paper or in an exercise book if requested or sent from school.

Work to complete if you are off whilst your bubble is still in school:

Our School Day:

8.40: School starts - children complete spelling and multiplication assessments in class. Please ensure your child is at school ready to start at this time.

11.45 - 12.30: Dinner time. Please ensure dinner money goes directly to the office. Please speak to the office staff if you have any queries.

2.50: School finishes. Please ensure your child knows if they can walk home alone. If they are collected, please ensure you are ready to collect them at 2.50 so we can keep the playground as clear as possible.
