At St Thomas', we learn Spanish. In KS2, we follow the National Curriculum for Languages and we teach using the Primary Languages Network scheme of work. We also introduce our KS1 children to Spanish, using the same scheme, to instil in them an enthusiasm for languages from an early age. Through our teaching of Spanish, we aim to foster a love of language learning in all of our children. We aim to develop their awareness and understanding not only of Spanish, but of other world languages and cultures. In doing so, we hope that our children will become respectful and informed global citizens.
By the time children leave our school, they will have acquired an understanding of the four key skills of language learning: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, and we hope that they will have developed a love of languages which will last through their time in education and into their adult life.
