RHE Letter

Dear Parents,

As you may be aware, last year The Department for Education announced new statutory content on relationships and health education. These changes were due to come into effect from September 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures, the government decided to extend this deadline to September 2021. From this new date, all schools will be required to comply with these regulations.

As a school, along with the governors, we have reviewed our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) curriculum and RHE (Relationships and Health Education) curriculum so we can ensure our provision is appropriate for our children based on their:

• Age

• Physical and emotional maturity

• Religious and cultural backgrounds

• Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

We planned to run some parent consultation workshops during the summer term last year to share our plan with you. However, due to the school closure these were unable to go ahead. Under the current circumstances, we are still unable to invite parents into school to take part in these workshops, but we still want to engage with you on this important aspect of your child’s education.

From today, you will be able to find a page on the school website relating to the RHE curriculum. You can find this page here: Relationships and Health Education (RHE) | St Thomas C of E Primary School (stthomaswernethprimary.co.uk). Once you have had a chance to look at the page, there is an opportunity to share your thoughts on our RSE policy and coverage through the parent consultation survey link RSE Survey (zohopublic.com)

Thank you for your continued support,

Yours sincerely

Mrs A Knowles
