Year Four

Welcome to Year 4.

This year your teachers will be Mrs Carruthers and Mrs Shipton. Supporting learning is Miss Tash, Mrs Mayall, Mrs Hall and Mrs Jones.

When safe, swimming will be held on a Thursday afternoon at Oldham Pool. The children will leave school at 1.30 and will return to school for 3.15 approximately. Children will need trunks or a swimming costume, a hat and a towel. Jewellery must not be worn and long hair must be tied back. Swimming hats can be purchased from the school office for £1.

PE will take place on a Friday morning. The children will need black leggings or joggers, a white tee shirt and a black sweater for the winter.

Homework will be set on a Friday and will consist of a home reading book, timetables, spellings and an additional piece from the curriculum. Please sign your child's reading record book to show that they have read to you. Homework must be returned to school on Tuesday.

 Covid 19 (Lockdown 3) Year 4 Newsletter

We would like to welcome all of year 4 back to school on Monday the 8th of March.

The school day will run as it did previously from 8.50am until 3pm.

Children will be expected to attend school wearing full uniform and black school shoes apart from on a Thursday and Friday when they can attend in PE kit.

PE kit comprises of pumps or trainers, black leggings, joggers or shorts, a white tee-shirt and a black sweatshirt if the weather is cold. Swimming will not commence until the 20th of April so swimming kits will not be needed on a Thursday and instead the children will do PE therefore needing a PE kit on Thursday.

When the children return to school on the 8th of March we will be having an assessment week focusing on reading, spelling and maths. This is to see where the children currently are in relation to year 4 expectations. This will enable us to therefore create a catch up programme of learning for the rest of the year.

Over the next few weeks until Easter half term the curriculum content is as follows:

Maths : Multiplication, division and time

English: Non-chronological reports and diaries

Science: Electricity and Sound

History: The Romans

RE: Easter

DT: Roman Chariots

PSHE: Friendships

Computing:  Animation

We look forward to seeing you all!

From Mrs Carruthers, Mrs Shipton and the rest of the year 4 team

Multiplication tables check: information video

Children in year 4 will participate in a multiplication test towards the end of year 4. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.

Anglo Saxon visitor

We had a visit from a lady who taught us all about the Anglo Saxons and how they came to live in this country.

We learned a lot about how the Anglo Saxons lived cooked and fought. How they made their clothes and how they hunted for their food.

There were lots of artefacts to see, such as spears and swords, clothes and cooking utensils and even a mini flour mill!
