Newsletter – April 30th 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
Hope you are all well and staying safe. We are all missing you very much, school doesn’t feel the same with empty classroom and playgrounds. Hopefully, when it is safe, we will all be back together soon.
Each Year group has written an update for you explaining the work they have set for the children to complete this week.
Can we also please remind parents about the various teaching and learning tools we have in school for the children to use:
TTRockstars

Purple Mash

Facebook Page
School has launched the Facebook page:
@stthomaswerneth
We are posting lots of different things on here, come and have a look, like us and keep coming back to see all the new things being added.
Seesaw online learning
To help with your child’s learning at home, school is subscribing to an online program where the children will be able to use their phones, tablets and laptops to complete school work. Teachers will be able to set the children work on here and children can complete it either by typing responses or taking photographs of the work they have done. It looks very exciting and will support your child’s learning at home.
Hopefully by next week we should be able to explain how the children can access it.
Free School Meal Vouchers
If your child is eligible for ‘Free School Meals’ you should be receiving a voucher each week to the email address you provided. The website the government use for ordering from is very slow and the vouchers are not being sent as quickly as we would have hoped. They were all ordered on Monday morning and should be with parents now, please check in your email spam and junk folders to make sure they haven’t been put in there by accident.
If you have any questions regarding this could you please fill in the form on the school website. It is on the parent page under Free School Meals.
If you are eligible but have not applied yet, there is a link on the same page which will help you apply.
Nursery
New work set will be on a sub- page star link named week beginning 4th May.
Included is Maths and English work as well as a craft activity and website links to cosmic a kids, Sticky Kids songs, Read Write Inc live sessions and story time sessions.
Would you also be able to ask parents to put any work they have done with their children onto Tapestry please.
Thank you, Mrs Jagger
Reception summer 1
This term our topic is Superheroes. On the Reception webpage, you will find our Superhero topic web and some exciting superhero themed homework activities your child can complete. Year 2 home learning activities for week beginning 4th May 2020
English - The magical box where we will learn about the story of Pandora's box. The week after we will create our own magical box poem and even design our magical box at home.
Maths - We will be learning the time to the nearest 15 minutes and compare and sequence intervals of time. We will then move on to telling the time in 5 minute intervals. In addition to this, weekly arithmetic practice papers will be on the maths subpage.
Science - We are learning about different habitats and the animals that live there. We have previously looked at desert and ocean habitats. We will research and find out information about many more including rainforest, arctic and woodland habitats and how certain animals adapt to their surroundings.
RE/PSHE - We will be learning how Jesus is a friend to everyone. First, we will focus on what makes a good friend and the qualities that you may need. Then we will listen to a story from the Bible every week and discuss how Jesus was a good friend to many.
Also add a big thank you and well done to Isaac Farooq for his amazing efforts in our TT Rockstars Battles and to Faiza Raniyah for reading every day on Rapid Reading.
