Our First Topic - AD900
Our first topic in Year 6 is AD900. We examine the Vikings and the Mayans, two civilisations prominent during this period. We study both individually before comparing the two. This topic provides the opportunity to learn key history and geography skills, as well as improving spoken language in drama activities, and developing non-fiction writing skills.
To start, we created a timeline of key events, to provide an idea as to where the Viking civilisation fits into a world/UK historical timeline.
We were then lucky enough to visit the Viking Centre Merton Park. Here the children got a fantastic insight into the lives of a Viking. Here are some pictures to show Viking life:
