Our Artist in Residence

Claire Mathers (our artist in residence) will be coming in to work with both year 1 and year 2 classes across Spring term to create a KS1 art exhibition. Parents will be invited to attend and pay for pieces of art that their children have created in the lessons. Therefore their art has an audience and purpose.

In year 1, the children will be experiencing a variety of printing techniques such as relief, intaglio, bubble and string painting.

In year 2, the children will be focusing on the artist Yayoi Kusama. They will use clay to create a flower in the style of the artist.

In year 3, Claire has been working alongside the Linking Project to create junk journals and friendship bracelets. The purpose of this is so that the children can build a sense of togetherness from within the classroom and beyond. It also allows children to explore identity, diversity, equality and community.

We will also be running an art and craft after school club on Thursdays for years 4,5 and 6 in February and March. We will be focusing on designing a product to take home as well as selling them in the March and April Chai and Chat sessions.
