Year Two

Dear parents and carers,

We are delighted to welcome back all children from Monday 8th March at 8.50am and finishing the day at 3pm. We look forward to an exciting half term ahead and the Year 2 team have been working hard to prepare for children returning. We will be offering a broad and balanced curriculum. We are so grateful for the children’s and parents’ efforts in home learning.

In the first couple of weeks, we will be settling the children back into the school routine and assessing gaps so that children can be supported moving forward. There will also be a focus on wellbeing.

We will be studying the following:

English - The children will be writing their own narrative based on 'The Kiss That Missed' by David Melling. They will then be writing letters using the text 'Dear Dragon'.

Maths – We will be revisiting addition and subtraction and learning multiplication and division strategies.

Science – We are learning about materials and their properties. The children will investigate why materials are more suitable for particular, everyday objects.

RE -  We will be looking at the symbols of Easter and finding out why Easter is the most special time for Christians.

Geography/History – We will be looking at castles including their features and how they were built and locating castles around the UK.

Art/DT - We are going to be learning about the artist James Patterson who drew striking images of castles. We will design and make a castle using junk modelling techniques.

Music - We are resuming music this half term, beginning with looking at medieval musical instruments. We will also be using Charanga for our Year 2 music scheme following simple rhythms using the glockenspiels.

PSHE: We will be continuing with our Zippy's Friends lessons and this half term will be focusing on friendship.

We can't wait to have our school community back in class, learning together.

With our very best wishes,

The Year 2 team

Welcome to Year 2!

We have two classes in Year 2:

Mr Shearsmith - Flamingos class

Mrs O'Sullivan - Eagles class

We are also very lucky to have Mrs Miah, Mrs Ali, Mrs Grattidge and Miss Binks

working alongside us.

Books will be changed on a Friday. Please make sure that reading books are in book bags daily as the children read throughout the week.

P.E. is on a Wednesday afternoon. Please come to school dressed in your P.E. kit so that you are not getting changed at school. The correct kit is a plain white t-shirt, black bottoms (leggings/joggers or shorts) and plain trainers.

Homework will be set weekly on Seesaw. Please speak to your child's teacher if you are unable to log on at home. Below are some other useful links that we will use throughout the year.
