Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

We have two classes in Year 2.

Flamingos- 2SE - Mr Eastwood

Eagles - 2JW - Miss Wood

In Year 2 we are very lucky to have Mrs Cummins, Mrs Miah, Miss Binks, Mrs Bano, Mrs Bibi and Mrs Latham working alongside the Year 2 classteachers.

In Maths this half term we are focusing on data handling, telling the time, different units of measure and money. We will be also revising for our End of Key Stage Assessments.

In English we are writing non-fiction animal books to link in with our topic 'I'm Alive.'

In Science we will be looking at the habitats of different animals; how animals are suited to live in their habits; food chains; life cycles and understanding whether something is alive, dead or never been alive.

The children have been working so hard on their SATS. You should be very proud of them all. Well done!

In preperation for our 'I'm Alive' topic, Year 4 visited our classes to show us their wonderful non-fiction books about wolves. They were brilliant at helping us learn lots of new facts!

We have worked in teams to find fractions of quantities.

We have also used a bee bot emulator to help us code algorithms!

We have been using Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentations about knights and dragons!

We have taken our maths learning outside this week. We have been creating arrays using different equipment and learning new words for multiplication and division.

Which material will be the best insulator?

We have been exploring materials and their properties in our science lessons!

In ICT the children have been creating algorithms to direct their partners to different places.

Thank you for all the wonderful castles we have had in for homework. Well done to everybody who participated. Mrs Knowles picked 2 winners from each class. We will be running another project this half term. We will inform you in a couple of weeks...

We have been using facts that we know to make other facts to 100.

In Maths we have been learning about the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction

Autumn 1 Homework

Come and see our learning!

Our famous people from the past party! All of the children had to dress up as somebody famous and tell everyone who they were and why they were famous!

As part of Black History Month we have learning a new African dance! Have a look at our pictures...

As part of our problem solving Friday, we have been using new vocabulary for addition and subtraction. We had to sort the words into two different groups.

In our science topic we have been learning about why exercise is important and how we can improve our health by participating in a range of different sport activities. We discussed how we felt after each exercise and which parts of our body we were exercising.

Mr Gwynne from Year 6 taught us some new vocabulary for addition and subtraction. We took our learning outside to play a range of new and exciting games which we will try again.

This week in Maths we have started partitioning numbers into different ways. We have been using equipment to help us see the patterns.

In Maths we had to estimate a range of objects from around the classroom. We looked in pairs to see if we agree or disagree in our estimates.

Wider Curriculum - We had fun using our sense of smell to guess what was in the container!

Wider Curriculum - We created board games based on the famous explorer Edmund Hilary. The children had to climb Mount Everest with many obstacles among their way. Look as us sharing and playing our games!

Wider Curriculum - Our senses walk around our school!

We now know a poem, by heart!

The poem is:
Five little senses all in a row by Andrew Fusek Peters

We have brought to life the meeting of Christopher Columbus and the Native Americans.

We have used equipment to help us understand place value.
