Maths

In Year 5, we are really developing their fluency in the fundamentals in Maths. This will help your child succeed in Year 6, in high school and beyond. They need to have a firm grasp of number and the number system: know number bonds, doubles, halves, their times tables and the four operation - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

There are lots of good websites to practice this fluency including TT Rockstars and Mathletics. Children can access these at home to get some good practise in! Maths Antics is also a great website and had some good videos explaining different areas of Maths.

The weekly homework reinforces what we have done that week and the morning work (8.50-9.00am) gives them a daily opportunity to revisit a different area. This is why it is essential children are in at 8.50am.

In Year 5, children need to be secure about place value. They need to read, write, order and compare numbers, including decimals, This place value chart from Twinkl is a good resource to check understanding of place value, including when you multiply or divide by 10, 100 or 1000.

Rapid recall of times tables!

Fractions, decimals and percentages - need to know!
