Year Five

We are delighted to welcome back all children from Monday 8th March at 8.40am with Year 5 and 6 children finishing the day at 2.50pm. We look forward to an exciting half term ahead and the Year 5 team have been working hard to prepare for children returning and offering a broad and balanced curriculum. We are so grateful for the children’s and parents’ efforts in home learning. In the first couple of weeks, we will be settling the children back into the school routine and assessing gaps so that children can be supported moving forward. There will also be a focus on wellbeing.

We will be studying the following:

English - Children will be continuing to look at Beowulf before moving on to study William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

Maths – We will be checking for understanding of what we done through home learning (multiplication and division, angles and properties of shape) and starting our unit on fractions.

Science – We will begin by dissecting flowers before moving on to properties and changes of materials. Lots of practical experiments and investigations!

RE -  We will be looking deeper into the Easter story as a celebration of victory.

History – We will be carrying on with our fascinating Viking unit. Please make sure you have completed the home learning lessons if you can.

Art - We will continuing looking at Viking art. PLease make sure you have completed the home learning lessons if you can.

Spanish - We will be learning how to tell the time and describe the weather.

Music - We will be studying Gustav Holst's ‘The Planets’ before moving on to The Fresh Prince of  Bel Air and hip-hop.

We can't wait to have our school community back in school learning together.

Homework

New Spellings will be given out on a Friday. They will be tested the following Friday.

As we are not collecting paper homework in at the moment, homework will be:

TT Rockstars

Reading Plus or Lexia

These will be checked to ensure children are accessing them over the weekend at some point.

Children also have reading books and it would be great for them to read to someone at home at least once a week.
