Welcome to the Year 6 page!
Mr Burrows (6SB) and Mr Gwynne (6JG) welcome you to Year 6.
We are also lucky to have Mrs Khatun, Mrs Begum, Mrs Grattidge, Mrs Ali and Mrs Mayall working alongside the children on a regular basis.
Continually, Mrs Grant and Mr McGrath will be helping pupils build skills and confidence towards SATS.
This year, Year 6 will have PE on a Monday and Friday. On Fridays please allow children to come to school in PE kits, bringing their uniform in a bag to change afterwards.
Homework is set on a weekly basis. Pupils will recieve spellings and maths practise. Reading practise will take place in school but any extra work done at home will be fantastic in advancing their learning.
Please remember your reading book and water bottle every day.
Our first English topics are autobiographies and biographies. We have looked closely at 'Boy' by Roald Dahl to examine features and will be writing our own autobiographies!
Our First Topic - AD900
Our first topic in Year 6 is AD900. We examine the Vikings and the Mayans, two civilisations prominent during this period. We study both individually before comparing the two. This topic provides the opportunity to learn key history and geography skills, as well as improving spoken language in drama activities, and developing non-fiction writing skills.
To start, we created a timeline of key events, to provide an idea as to where the Viking civilisation fits into a world/UK historical timeline.
We were then lucky enough to visit the Viking Centre Merton Park. Here the children got a fantastic insight into the lives of a Viking. Here are some pictures to show Viking life:
