What is P.S.H.C.E?
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic education, are planned programmes of learning opportunities and experiences that help children grow and develop as individuals, families as well as social and economic communities. PSHCE education equips children and young people with knowledge, understanding attitudes, practical skills to live healthy and safe, whilst maintaining productive, fulfilled, capable and responsible lives.
PSHCE provides a focus on the personal dimension and Citizenship a focus on the public dimension.
The Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) provide a framework and ideas for teaching key aspects (‘domains’) of emotional intelligence.
PSHCE education, Citizenship and SEAL enables children to reflect on and clarify their own values, attitudes and feelings. It enables them to explore the complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter now, and in the future.
This area of the curriculum makes a significant contribution towards supporting schools and their children in meeting statutory responsibilities to promote well-being, achieve the curriculum aims and promote community cohesion.
